According to a top police officer, the driver’s medical examination verified that alcohol was in his system. Three of the fourteen children who were hospitalized after the accident are still in serious condition, according to officials.

school bus accident

On Thursday, the bus transporting students in Classes 4 through 10 to the GL Public School struck a tree and capsized. The school owned the bus, and records indicated that its fitness certificate had expired in 2018, which was six years ago. An officer in state road transport has been placed on leave.

“A case has been registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code dealing with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and others,” said Mahendra Rana, Deputy Superintendent of Police, in Hindi. Because the fitness certificate was invalid, sections of the Motor Vehicle Act have also been enforced. Three people have been taken into custody: Dharmendra, the driver; Dipti, the principal; and Hoshiyar Singh, a staff member who handled the buses and other duties as a secretary.

“A medical test has confirmed that alcohol was present in the driver’s bloodstream,” said Rana.

In response to an inquiry about locals’ claims that several of them had stopped the bus and reported the driver’s intoxication to the school officials thirty minutes before to the accident, the police officer said that the individual making the allegation had recorded their testimony. He also disclosed that there had been a recent challan against the bus.
Seema Trikha, the state minister of education, said that an investigation is underway to determine why the school was holding courses on Eid, a holiday.
