Narendra Modi oath ceremony: Who will attend event amid ‘Neighbourhood First’ push?

Swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi: PM of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina will depart Dhaka for Delhi at eleven a.m. today.
The rulers of numerous surrounding nations will be among the many international dignitaries present when Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi takes the oath of office on Sunday in the national capital. The next day, these visiting foreign leaders are supposed to meet with him.

After claiming to establish the new union government after winning his third term in the national election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi makes a speech.
President of the Maldives Mohamed Muizzu may also attend the big event. His apparent China-tilt damaged the nation’s ties with India.

Muizzu is probably going to travel for the event in New Delhi on Saturday, along with a few other top Maldivian government officials.

The neighbors invited to Narendra Modi’s swearing-in event are the heads of governments of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Mauritius, and Seychelles.

Among them have declared their attendance: Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka, and Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda of Nepal.

The arrival of Dahal and Ranil Wickremesinghe in Delhi is scheduled on June 9. Hasina would probably take out for Delhi today.

As per ANI, Dahal and PM Modi had a phone conversation during which the former verified his presence.

PM Sheikh Hasina will depart Dhaka at eleven a.m. today.

Due to the change in the oath-taking ceremony dates, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave Dhaka for Delhi at 11 am on Saturday, June 8 and will return home at noon on June 10 after attending the swearing-in ceremony of PM Narendra Modi,” Bangladesh PM’s Speech Writer M Nazrul Islam stated.

In keeping with its Neighbourhood First strategy, New Delhi has sent invitations to these politicians.

A major step in reducing tensions between the two traditional partners might be taken if Muizzu visits India. Abdullah Yameen, one of Muizzu’s predecessors, had gone to Modi’s swearing ceremony in May 2014.

After Muizzu took office in November 2023, ties between India and the Maldives deteriorated. India has been ordered to remove its armed forces from the nation. He was an India Out candidate in the elections.

With 293, the National Democratic Alliance, headed by the BJP, emerged victorious in the Indian general elections. INDIA group of the Opposition secured 234 seats.
