A fresh report that Windows Central can confirm is that the future Call of Duty game, which is a part of one of the biggest gaming series in the world, will be available on Xbox Game Pass.
Following a lengthy internal debate, Microsoft—which acquired Activision Blizzard, the company that makes Call of Duty—plans to add the next game in the series to Game Pass in 2024.
Following its Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, the firm is scheduled to make the announcement at a separate Call of Duty event the following month.
A new Black Ops game, Call of Duty 2024, was recently revealed by Windows Central to take place in the early 1990s during the Gulf War.
Active Following the completion of its contentious $69 billion acquisition of the publisher, Blizzard announced in October that the next Call of Duty release in 2024 will be part of Microsoft’s all-you-can-eat gaming subscription program Xbox Game Pass. As per a story from The Wall Street Journal that Windows Central can confirm, Microsoft is scheduled to make an official announcement about this at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase. Most likely, an event focused on Call of Duty will be held after the main exhibition to make the announcement.
One previous report said that Microsoft was internally discussing the extent to which to add Call of Duty to Xbox Game Pass. Access to Game Pass was feared to lower revenue from purchases of the immensely popular first-person shooter. Call of Duty games have always sold very well and normally price for $69.99, much like many other “AAA” game releases in recent years.
Presumably, Call of Duty on Game Pass would let players with Xbox Series X|S consoles play the game with a $10/month Xbox Game Pass subscription, while PC players would get access to the game via the Microsoft Store with a similarly priced PC Game Pass membership. Users of the $15/month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate advanced level of the service will be able to play the game on both devices. While Microsoft would have to bargain with Ubisoft since it granted the publisher streaming rights to appease CMA officials, Xbox Cloud Gaming availability is doable.
In Call of Duty, black operations
November saw Windows Central reveal that the next Call of Duty game will be a Black Ops title. Credit for the picture belongs to Activision.
The decision to include a new Call of Duty game on Game Pass is significant, even though it’s unclear at this moment whether Microsoft plans to bring earlier titles to the service as well. How well this one performs might affect future Game Pass releases, but next month Xbox officials may have more details to share about their Call of Duty strategy.
It’s also unknown whether Xbox Game Pass holders would get a discount on full Call of Duty purchases since Microsoft offers price cuts for certain, but not all, service extensions. According to the previously stated source, Microsoft has been considering boosting the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate once again after its increase last year; this might be the case if it carries out its intention to include one of the largest gaming properties in the world to the program.
Microsoft has scheduled a June 9th Xbox titles Showcase where it will reveal a handful of upcoming games that are currently in production at Xbox Game Studios. Among them are Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and more well-known titles like the next Call of Duty game, a Black Ops installment set in the Gulf War of the 1990s.
Everyone has been speculating about whether Microsoft would really add Call of Duty to Xbox Game Pass ever since the corporation announced its plan to acquire Activision Blizzard in 202. Two years and almost six months after the deal was finalized, we now have an explanation.
Obviously, this decision is being made extremely carefully and after giving its benefits and drawbacks significant consideration. While Game Pass will surely grow tremendously thanks to one of the largest gaming IPs ever published, fewer people will actually buy the game. I take it Microsoft has decided that the benefits of its Game Pass business over the long run outweigh the loss of revenue.
We’ll probably learn more about Microsoft’s plans for Call of Duty within the following several weeks and months. I personally want to see earlier Black Ops games added on Xbox Game Pass as well, even though I think the success of the upcoming game will affect the likelihood of future titles coming on the service.
