The two-time IPL champion and former captain Gautam Gambhir recently expressed hope about the Kolkata Knight Riders’ future beyond his mentoring deal. Speaking at the Knights Unplugged event that coincided with the team’s introduction in uniform, Gambhir conveyed his belief that KKR would succeed.
Gambhir, the captain who led KKR to IPL championships in 2012 and 2014.
The renowned cricket player praised the priceless contributions of his former colleagues Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. He praised the enthusiasm of Russell and the selflessness of Narine, calling Narine “the ultimate teammate” and someone he would “go to great lengths for.”
Anticipating the next Indian Premier League season, Gambhir shared his observations from talks with Shah Rukh Khan, remembering the latter’s instruction to Gambhir when he joined the team in 2011: “This is your franchise, make it or break it.” Gambhir gave supporters the reassurance that KKR will succeed without him.
Echoing Gambhir’s confidence, captain Shreyas Iyer said it was an honour to work with both Gambhir and coach Chandrakant Pandit. He admitted that having such pillars of the team had been a useful experience.
Pandit expressed confidence in the team’s makeup and balance for the forthcoming season when analyzing KKR’s success under Nitish Rana’s leadership the previous season. He underlined how important it is for players and support personnel to work together to achieve success.
KKR debuted their new app, Knight Club Plus, and their 2024 IPL season attire during the event. The franchise had an excellent ensemble that included actors like Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Mitchell Starc, Manish Pandey, Nitish Rana, and Shreyas Iyer.
