Two surprises met the ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ cast on the Cannes red carpet: Hemsworth’s dress code violation and Taylor-Joy’s classic but subtle attire.
The Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga cast and creatives walked the Cannes Film Festival red carpet on Wednesday.
Stars Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy both dressed unexpectedly for the film’s Cannes premiere.
Taylor-Joy chose a classic champagne-colored Dior ball gown accented with Tiffany & Co. jewelry, after her stunning Paco Rabanne ensemble for the film’s Australian premiere. The platinum necklace around the star is centered on diamonds weighing more than 68 carats. Her costume is completed with Tiffany & Co. platinum and white gold diamond rings and 18-karat white gold diamond earrings.
Though the Menu star’s choice to wear Dior was not a departure from some of her more recent red carpet looks, her classic Old Hollywood style was. The 28-year-old actress is an ambassador for the high-end clothing company. Honorary Palme d’Or winners Juliette Binoche and Meryl Streep are likewise decked up by the French firm during the French film festival.
Taylor-Joy co-star Hemsworth drew notice for his ensemble as well. The Australian actor wore a Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 Frozen watch, adorned with sapphires and diamonds and made of morally sound 18-karat white gold, along with matching diamond cufflinks.
Hemsworth defiantly skipped the tie in Cannes, breaking the dress code. The festival website says that to attend the Gala screenings, one must wear an evening gown or a dinner jacket (tuxedo) with a bow tie. In the lack of this, you may wear a black dress, a dark trouser suit, a cocktail dress, a midnight blue or black suit with a bow tie, or a chic top and black trousers. The Hollywood Reporter has contacted a Hemsworth agent for comment.
Recent years have seen Taylor-Joy become well-known on the red carpet. The actress’s gold-and-silver Paco Rabanne minidress and headpiece with arrow-like spikes from the Furiosa premiere, along with her white Dior Couture ensemble at the Dune: Part Two premiere, were a much discussed red carpet moment of 2024.

The title heroine of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is played by Taylor-Joy in place of Charlize Theron. In the prequel, Warlord Dementus leads a formidable Biker Horde that confronts the ruler Immortan Joe of Fury Road after kidnapping young Furiosa from the Green Place of Many Mothers. Furiosa needs to survive and put together the equipment to go home as the two battle for dominance. Hemsworth and Tom Burke also feature alongside Taylor-Joy.
